Hey, I’m Open To Work!
I used to hear things like.. “Having the Open To Work badge on your LinkedIn profile is a red flag.” But I waved it off as one of those unpopular and weird opinions.
However, what happened last week proved me wrong.
Recruiters at the big companies, and I mean Google and Amazon, said having the Open to Work badge is giving "Hey, I'm looking for a job!" And these recruiters think it's not the smartest move.
Nolan Church, who used to source talent for Google thinks the badge is a huge red flag. He says the top candidates aren't out there waving signs saying, "Hire me!" They are like hidden gems you have to find.
Lindsay Mustain, a former Amazon recruiter, is also on the same page. She believes that in the job hunt game, power is key. If you're showing you need a job, it puts the recruiter in control, not the candidate.
Nolan Church even took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam this LinkedIn feature, calling it the "worst social media feature ever pushed to production." Ouch!
LinkedIn’s team thought they were doing the world good by introducing this feature but I guess not.
